Stud Fee: $400
The Stud Fee includes two
(2) collections of cooled semen. There is no monetary refund for any un-used
collections that come included with the Stud Fee. Most Stud Fees do not include
collection fees for shipped cooled semen and if they do, they normally only
include 1 collection before additional collection fees start being charged. We
know going AI can be expense or cost prohibitive for some people when additional
charges for this and that start racking up. So we try to make it as cost
effective as possible on our end so that those of you looking to breed to top
quality show proven jacks can do so without breaking the bank. Therefore we
choose to include 2 collections with our Stud Fees and have you post a
reasonable Shipping Deposit of $200 so that you should be able to receive 2
shipments of cooled semen before incurring any additional collection and
shipping fees. If at all possible we ship two (2) doses of cooled semen in each
shipment. That way if something happens to one dose you still have a back up
dose good to go and can proceed with the insemination without delay. Or if
ovulation is delayed and you need semen at 36 - 48 hours out you already have it
there and ready to go. Also if you are breeding multiple mares/jennets you or
your vet can arrange for the mares to cycle at the same time so that they
ovulate at the same time or very close to one another. That way you can
inseminate 2 mares/jennets on a single shipment and reduce your shipping charges
and your veterinary expenses and minimize any additional collection fees.
EXAMPLE: You book 2 mares
OR you and a friend each book one mare to the same jack (both mares
need to be inseminated at the same location)– each requires a $400 Stud
Fee and each requires a $200 Shipping Deposit. Total amount due would be
$1200. If each mare is cycling independent of each other you have 2
collections and 2 shipments of cooled semen for each mare from which to
get each mare pregnant before incurring additional collection fees and
shipping charges. BUT if they are cycling together and ovulating at the
same time each mare can receive 1 dose of shipped cooled semen from that
one shipment and that would give you 4 collections and 4 shipments from
which to get BOTH mares in foal before incurring additional fees. When
it all goes right they both will become pregnant on that first shipment.
But sometimes one may catch on the first shipment and the other may not.
Therefore the second mare will require a second shipment and possibly a
third or even fourth if she is having trouble conceiving and maintaining
her pregnancy. But you have 4 collections (2 in each Stud Fee) and
posted a shipping deposit for 4 shipments (2 on each mare) so posting
additional fees for additional collections and shipping should not be
necessary. Also if one of the mares should terminate their pregnancy you
still have 1 or 2 un-used collections and money on reserve in your
Shipping Deposit from which more semen can be shipped. This can save
you hundreds of dollars in additional fees and expenses. So it’s
definitely something to think about and consider.
As previously mentioned in
addition to the Stud Fee a Shipping Deposit of $200 is required. This
$200 will usually cover two (2) shipments of cooled semen to your farm
or veterinarian. In some rare cases it may cost more than $100 to
deliver the cooled semen to where it needs to go. Especially if Fed Ex
deems your location a “rural delivery” or if you need a Saturday
delivery. If that happens I will let you know as soon as possible so
that if a second shipment is needed any additional shipping fees can be
paid for prior to the second shipment. Once your mare/jennet is 100 days
in foal any un-used monies remaining in the Shipping Deposit will be
returned to you. I just need to hear from you that your mare/jennet has
been vet checked at 100/+ days and that things are proceeding right on
schedule. A phone message or e-mail letting me know with your name and
mare/jennets name and a phone number is all that’s needed. That way if
I have any questions or need to verify an address I can reach you.
In our ongoing effort to
minimize the costs to go AI for our clients we are now offering
Disposable Cooled Semen Shipping containers. We charge $35 for each
Disposable Shipping container and each container holds 2 doses of semen.
Using a disposable shipper has two advantages over using an Equitainer:
1)
The cost to ship your
cooled semen with a Disposable Shipper is $10-$15 less than the cost of
shipping it to you in an Equitainer because it’s smaller and lighter so
Fed Ex charges less.
2)
You don’t have the
added shipping expense of returning the empty Equitainer to us, which
can sometimes be as much to return as it was to send! So buying a
Disposable Shipper for $35 can save you $10 - $15 in shipping fees on
getting the semen to you and you don’t have to pay $85 -$100 in shipping
fees returning the Equitainer. The Disposable Shipper is also
recyclable so if you recycle simply separate the Styrofoam inner piece
from the outer Cardboard box and toss them in your recycle bin; if you
don’t recycle toss them in the trash.
As you can see using a
Disposable Shipper can save you quite a bit of money. HOWEVER, there
will be times when using a Disposable Shipper isn’t advisable. Like when
there is REALLY bad weather over the flight path or near the Fed Ex
transfer/sorting hub in TN. Anything BIG that might divert air traffic
off its normal route or cause flights to be grounded for an extended
period of time. If REALLY BAD weather and delays are anticipated then
we will need to use an Equitainer to get your cooled semen to you
because it is stronger than a Disposable Shipper and it can keep the
semen cooler for a longer period of time. I always check the weather
along your shipment’s intended flight path prior to packaging, so if I
see a problem I will let you know ASAP.
Also new is our ability to
accept payment though PayPal! So those of you wishing to pay by credit
card or through your personal PayPal account can do so. The PayPal “Pay
Now” button is listed on the Home page as well as each individual jack’s
page. Be sure you are entering the correct amount for your transaction,
which should be the Stud Fee + the Shipping Deposit OR additional
funds to cover any additional expenses that were incurred on your
behalf. Again if you have any questions as to the amount you need to
pay please call or write to me so that we can go over it.
A Breeding Contract is available for printing from this website.
Be sure to read it thoroughly and to check the correct box for the jack
of your choice before mailing it in. The Stud Fee and the Shipping
Deposit must be paid prior to any semen shipments.
When choosing the proper jack to breed to your mare or jennet in pursuit
of that “perfect” performance mule or donkey, there are many things to
take into consideration. Conformation, temperament, beauty, brains, and
trainability are of primary importance. The chosen jack should
complement your mare or jennet. Providing the jack is a large standard,
of good or better quality, the mule offspring should be refined, very
athletic and of good size for riding. Don't be fooled into thinking you
need the size of a mammoth jack, at the sacrifice of refinement and
athletic ability. Mules are unique creatures of design. So by carefully
choosing the right jack you have an opportunity to create a custom made
mule to suit your specific needs. So what you want to do with your mule
5 years or 10 years from now has every thing to do with what jack you
choose today. If you are unsure of which jack would best suit your
needs, just give me a call or drop us a line and we’ll be glad to help
you pick which jack would be best for your custom made mule.
Gate Farm’s Simply Irresistible or “Ewok” as he is known to family and
friends, is a Black and White Tyger Spotted Jack. Ewok has an extensive
show record showing in Halter Classes against horses, mules and donkeys.
Since starting his show career Ewok has been to 45 shows. In that time
he has racked up quite an impressive show record. He has brought home
numerous trophies including the 2005 World Champion Jack and 2002
Reserve World Champion Jack from the biggest mule and donkey show on
earth Bishop Mule Days! In addition to that he has 106 ribbons, engraved
halters, jackets and monetary awards. Ewok and his brother Ace were the
first jacks to compete against horses on their turf, play by their rules
and win! They were also the first Year End High Point Grand Champion and
Reserve Champion Stallions to have long ears and bray!
In the interest of saving time, Gate Farm’s Simply Irresistible’s 45
show results as of June 2005 have been condensed. He’s accomplished all
of this showing against horses, mules and donkeys. Because of the
Mountain Fire and the re-building of our Temecula Facility we have not
shown any of the jacks. They have been furthering their education at
home driving for fun and practicing for CDE’s (Combined Driving Events).
