Stud Fee: $600
The Stud Fee is a complete package. It includes up to
two (2) shipments of Cooled Semen in disposable shippers shipped within
the continuous United States by Priority Overnight Delivery through
FedEx and sent directly to your farm or vet’s office. There is no
monetary refund for any un-used Cooled Semen shipments included in the
Stud Fee. If you live outside the continuous United States there would
be additional changes, please call for more information and a price.
Most Stud Fees are separate
from the collection fees for shipped Cooled Semen. If they are included
they normally only include 1 collection before additional collection
fees start being charged. We know going AI can be expense or cost
prohibitive for some people when additional charges for this and that
start racking up. So we try to make it as easy as possible so that those
of you looking to breed to top quality show proven jacks can do so
without breaking the bank.
Therefore we offer a
complete breeding package. No
separate fees or extra charges for collections, shipping, disposable
shippers, handling, delivery to transfer station etc…. Just a flat $600
Stud Fee gives you up to two shipments of Cooled Semen shipped Priority
Overnight through FedEx and sent directly to your farm or vet’s office.
If at all possible we ship two (2) doses of Cooled Semen in each
shipment. Both of these jacks are excellent shippers and have a
much better semen quality than stallions. They have substantially higher
semen counts, no gel, very few cells with abnormal morphology, and a
very high motility rate. Their sperm also have stronger staying power in
the extender. It is not unusual to have 30% or better motility 48 hours
out. As long as the Cooled
Semen is handled per our instructions upon its arrival it should be good
and viable for at least 48 hours. We always try to include 2 doses in
each shipment so that if ovulation is delayed and you need semen at 36 -
48 hours out you already have it there and ready to go.
Also if you are breeding
multiple mares/jennets you or your vet can arrange for the mares to
cycle at the same time so that they ovulate at the same time or very
close to one another. That way you can inseminate 2 mares/jennets on a
single shipment and reduce the number of shipments needed to get both
mares pregnant and minimize your veterinary expenses.
EXAMPLE: You book 2 mares
OR you and a friend each book one mare to the same jack (both mares need
to be inseminated at the same location) – each mare requires a $600 Stud
Fee . Total amount due for the two mares would be $1200. If each mare is
cycling independent of each other you have up to 2 shipments of Cooled
Semen for each mare from which to get each mare pregnant before
incurring additional Cooled Semen fees. BUT if they are cycling
together and ovulating at the same time each mare can receive 1 dose of
shipped Cooled Semen from each shipment and that would give you 4
shipments of Cooled Semen from which to get BOTH mares in foal before
incurring additional fees. When it all goes right they both will
become pregnant on that first shipment. But sometimes one may catch on
the first shipment and the other may not. Therefore the second mare will
require a second shipment and possibly a third if she is having trouble
conceiving and maintaining her pregnancy. But you have up to 4 shipments
(2 included in each $600 Stud Fee) from which to get both mares
pregnant. Also if for some reason one of the mares should terminate
their pregnancy you should still have 1 or 2 un-used shipments on
reserve from which more Cooled Semen can be shipped. This can save
you hundreds of dollars in additional fees and expenses. So it’s
definitely something to think about and consider.
To further ensure the
quality and integrity of our Cooled Semen we do not have it picked up
here at the farm. Riding and bouncing around in the back of a non-air
conditioned FedEx truck for 5-9 hours can be extremely hazardous to
shipped Cooled Semen. Therefore we prefer to transport our Cooled Semen
to the FedEx transfer station ourselves. This way it has a smooth air
conditioned ride whatever the temperature and it is not shaken or
bounced around for hours and hours on end.
It goes straight from the air conditioned car into an air
conditioned building where it waits patiently in a controlled climate
atmosphere for its ride to
Ontario
International
Airport. How semen is handled during and
after it is collected, packaged for shipment and transported has
everything to do with the quality of Cooled Semen you receive at your
farm or vet’s office. So when deciding which jack to use be sure to ask
the Farm Manager how their Cooled Semen is handled and ask if it is
picked up at their farm. If it is picked up on site then you can be
assured that it is riding and bouncing around in a non –air conditioned
FedEx truck for hours on end before getting to the FedEx transfer
station for their area. Once the Cooled Semen leaves a FedEx airport hub
or your nearest major airport it is only a few hours away from being
delivered to you. The last leg of the journey is pretty easy because
it’s the shortest traveling time. It’s the first half of the journey
where things usually happen. So ask yourself, do you really want your
special delivery package being bounced around and shaken any more than
necessary?
To date only 1 mare has not
become pregnant in the first heat cycle in which she was bred. And only
this 1 mare has needed more than 2 shipments of Cooled Semen to become
pregnant. In her case she
needed 3 shipments over 2 cycles. In the event that your mare/jennet
needs more than the 2 shipments of Cooled Semen that come included in
the $600 Stud Fee additional shipments for that mare/jennet may be
purchased for $160. This $160 includes the collection, disposable
shipper and Priority Overnight shipping through FedEx to have the Cooled
Semen delivered directly to your farm or vet’s office.
A Breeding Contract is
available for printing from this website. Be sure to read it thoroughly
and be sure to check the correct box for the jack of your choice before
mailing it in. The $600 Stud Fee must be paid and all checks or money
orders must clear the bank prior to any semen shipments. I prefer to
have all the paperwork into my office at least 2 weeks prior to any
calls for semen.
When choosing the proper
jack to breed to your mare or jennet in pursuit of that “perfect”
performance mule or donkey, there are many things to take into
consideration. Conformation, temperament, beauty, brains, and
trainability are of primary importance. The chosen jack should
complement your mare or jennet. Providing the jack is a large standard,
of good or better quality, the mule offspring should be refined, very
athletic and of good size for riding. Don't be fooled into thinking you
need the size of a mammoth jack, at the sacrifice of refinement and
athletic ability. Mules are unique creatures of design. So by carefully
choosing the right jack you have an opportunity to create a custom made
mule to suit your specific needs. So what you want to do with your mule
5 years or 10 years from now has everything to do with what jack you
choose today. If you are unsure of which jack would best suit your
needs, just give me a call or drop us a line and we’ll be glad to help
you pick which jack would be best for your custom made mule.
Now for information on Gate
Farm’s Simply Irresistible or “Ewok” as he is known to family and
friends. Gate Farm’s Simply Irresistible is a true Black and White Tyger
Spotted Jack and he is GAITED!
He also has an extensive show record showing in Halter Classes
against horses, mules and donkeys. Since starting his show career Ewok
has been to 45 shows. In that time he has racked up quite an impressive
show record. He has brought home numerous trophies including the 2005
World Champion Jack and 2002 Reserve World Champion Jack from the
biggest mule and donkey show on earth Bishop Mule Days! In addition to
that he has 106 ribbons, engraved halters, jackets and monetary awards.
Ewok and his brother Ace were the first jacks to compete against horses
on their turf, play by their rules and win! They were also the first
Year End High Point Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Stallions to
have long ears and bray!
In the interest of saving time, Gate
Farm’s Simply Irresistible’s 45 show results as of June 2005 have been
condensed. He’s accomplished all of this showing against horses, mules
and donkeys. Because of the Mountain Fire and the re-building of
our Temecula Facility we have not shown any of the jacks. They have been
furthering their education at home driving for fun and practicing for
CDE’s (Combined Driving Events). See additional photos of Gate Farm’s
Simply Irresistible aka “Ewok” below.
